Ending the Day Well

I am a very busy woman. Most days, I walk in many roles (wife, mother, homeschool mom, entrepreneur, mawmaw) and take care of a plethora responsibilities, so I like to end my day well with a sense of accomplishment, order, peace and joy. Though it took a bit of effort to get my routine down, now it’s just a normal part of the evening.

After dinner, the priority is for the clutter of the day to be removed and returned to it’s rightful place, not only in our living space, but also in our bedroom suite. Visual clutter is distracting and creates unnecessary frustration and stress especially at the start of a new day.

After my shower, to feel comfortable and cozy, I put on one of my husband’s t-shirts. Then, I reflect on my day and review my Daily Planner. I check off the things I accomplished, circle that which I did not complete and if necessary move tasks accordingly to another date. During this time, I talk to the Lord about all that has occurred throughout the day…the successes and the challenges. I seek His wisdom and embrace His presence. This relieves me of stress and gives me a fresh perspective for the next day.

To continue to wind down and relax, I enjoy sipping a warm cup of tea while journaling or reading. If time allows before my scheduled bed time, I will crochet and or watch an episode of a television series.

Intentionally ending my day well is one of the best parts of my daily self-care routine. Regardless of when I get up in the morning it is such a blessing to rise to a home that is in order. It just gives me a sense of peace and joy and allows me to start my day slowly, with purpose.

  1. Have you ever had an issue where, despite your best efforts at giving your family all of you, members of you family think that a different member of the family is more important to you than they are? I’ve recently had that come up and it’s so frustrating because I know I’m doing my best and trying to be everything to everyone, and having your husband or child say they’re not as important as another family member makes me feels like it’s all for nothing.
