Life Hacks for the Woman Who is at Home

Most of my adult life I have been a stay at home woman, wife, mother, homeschool mom and entrepreneur. I have ten children, yes, three generations and I am grandmother. I am officially in the Titus 2 season of my life and want to share a few, very important life hacks that have been a blessing to me.

I will start with the most important life hack that I would give any woman and that is to rise early each morning. This is precious time alone that, personally I have not been able to obtain at any other time of the day. Rising early has allowed me to have time alone with myself and time alone with God. I find it to be the most peaceful time of day, a time that I can be still long enough to look deep within my own heart and ponder my current state of being, honestly. I can also seek and hear from God more clearly in the early morning. For me, this has been a great sacrifice no matter what season of life I am in, but it is so worth doing. Along with these very important things, in this early morning time, I am also able to complete my daily self-care routine.

Another very important life hack is to “get dressed”. Of course, everyone put’s on clothing each day, but Ladies, what we choose to wear can have a great affect on our attitude or frame of mind as well as our actions or performance. When I get dressed on purpose, as if I am preparing to work or to attend something of importance, my posture is more erect and my confidence is elevated. Quite frankly, when I look good, I feel good and I perform better. Don’t you!

Over the years, I have learned that water is our friend. Drinking a sufficient amount of water helps me to think more clearly and it helps me feel more energetic and vibrant. My third life hack is to fill up a water bottle that is equivalent to your daily water intake each morning. Having my water portioned and readily available encourages me to drink it throughout the day. My goal is to drink all of my water before dinner each day. This allows me to get the greatest benefits of drinking the water during and day and it allows me to rid myself the the excess water before night fall.

As we all know, eating regularly is important, but I found it difficult to do without having a plan. So, I came up with a meal menu for our family. It is not a “meal plan” that requires me to purchase particular ingredients and cook specific meals. Instead, it is a meal menu that guides me to select from a variety of foods that I maintain in our kitchen, pantry and freezer. This hack will help you use the food staples that you regularly purchase to provide a variety of well balanced meals each day for you and your family.

This life hack will give you help you manage your weight, reduce feelings of anxiety and depression and improve your quality of sleep. Choose to sit less. That’s right, get up on your feet every 30 minutes. Go get coffee or tea, use a standing desk for work or homeschooling, walk when talking on the phone, choose to use the stairs, you can even park farther away from your destination. These things will help you to get on your feet and move around more each day.

And last, but not least on my list of life hacks is to use a daily planner. I don’t know about you, but I operate so much better when I know what to expect, when. As I think of things or as I am made aware of things i.e. events, appointments, activities, I write them down on my to do list. Then each evening before bed, I update my daily planner by adding things that need to be done. My daily planner has a schedule with hours listed from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. for me to simply fill in what needs to be done at a certain time. It also has all the areas that are most important to me already noted…my daily self-care, priorities of the day, business tasks and family and home tasks. It has a section for notes as well. I print my double-sided pages and maintain what I need for about 30 days in my binder so that I can fill it it as I go. My daily planner really does help to keep me organized and on top of the important things in my life.

I can’t say enough of about these life hacks. They are truly things that I live by to help me maintain peace and order in my heart, my life and in our home. What things would you add to this list of life hacks?

  1. Something that is helping me is putting tasks on regular rhythm if they aren’t daily tasks. For example, I want to keep my boys’ hair groomed, so we do haircuts on the same day each month. We have a particular commitment on the first saturday of each month, so haircuts have been scheduled the Monday before for the past six months. Your posts encourage me! Thank you for sharing!
