Mornings Matter to me. To help me maintain a healthy mental, physical and spiritual state, I rise early each weekday to spend time alone before my family gets out of bed. This allows me to slowly take the time I need to care well for myself. Some mornings it’s a struggle to pull myself away from my husband and our warm bed, but the blessings of a fresh perspective and feeling energized and ready for my day is so worth the sacrifice.

As I sit comfortably on the couch, I usually grab my favorite blanket and throw it across my lap. With my warm cup of green tea in one hand, I reach into my morning basket to begin my devotional time that I spend seeking God and reflecting on his Word. My morning basket has been a staple in this part of my morning routine for years. It is where I place all of the essentials that I need for my quiet time of being refreshed in Him.

In my morning basket, of course, I have my Bible, my personal journal, ink pens, writing pads and scrap paper. I also have journals that I write prayers in, one journal for each person or group of people I pray for each week. Along with my prayer journals I have the books The Power of a Praying Wife, by Stormie Omartian and Praying the Scriptures for Your Children, by Jodie Berndt that I use as prayer prompts. I also have greeting cards and message cards that I can write in to send words of encouragement to others. Often times I have additional books in my morning basket so that if I have time to read, my books are right there for me to grab. Do you pause for quiet time alone with God during the day or during the week?

I love your morning routine. I have also been reflecting on my ideal morning. Where in your day do you find time for exercise, breakfast, and homeschool prep? You are a blessing, Michele!

I love reading about your morning routine. It sounds grounding. As a mom to four, I find myself needing this kind of routine. My youngest is four months, so I’m just taking it one day at a time, but he also wakes before 5, so he’s going to help me build momentum. Thank you for your feedback. It really does help!
P.S. To answer your question, my prayer time is often, but I especially love praying during a morning walk. Without my most important prayer happening in the morning, I will try again before bed, but I’m often exhausted. I’ll continue working on my morning routine, especially to include prayer. Thanks again for your encouragement!
