Begin…Again

Marriage takes work whether you have been married two years or twenty years and counting. How I relate to my husband is a reflection of my relationship with God.  I have to always remember that I made a covenant unto Lord, a lifelong commitment regarding my husband.  I must be as committed today as I was on my wedding day to keep that covenant and to begin again and again to maintain unity, harmony and joy in our marriage, always.

Like most relationships, marriage will have challenges, ups and downs, good seasons and bad seasons. When our marriage meets hills and valleys, I refuse to be a woman who gives up, instead I am committed to retreat and reflect alone with God. When I withdraw myself from the conflict, to spend time alone with Him. There, I am free to express whatever I want, however I want. I can yell, scream, cry or sob without criticism or condemnation and I do. I can trust God. He does not change and He always leads me to look at myself.

Adversity will come, even in marriage. Because I am who I am, when we do meet adversity, I have to be slow to react and quick to pray. This gives me the opportunity to pause and consider what we have been presented with and what would be the best way for me to respond, so that we can work through the situation, together.

The only one I can fix is me. As I am committed to live with peace and joy in my heart, I must also be willing to work on my own issues. I know that humility is key to harmony within my own heart and mind. Being honest with myself and acknowledging my own sinful actions is always the necessary step to changing me…my heart and my response to the issues I face in my marriage.

How do you begin again after a situation or circumstances cause a separation in the harmony of your marriage?
