Still, I Rise Early

I can’t remember a season in my adult life that I did not rise early. Even though our last two (of our ten) children are teens and I have no reason or responsibility to, still, I rise early. There’s just something about the tranquility of the morning. The darkness illuminated by candlelight is so calming and sweet. The quietness of our home ensues a peace in my heart as I begin the day. The alone time affords me opportunity to move my body, think, journal, talk and listen to the Lord. It’s priceless.

Reading a devotional book.

Quiet time, particularly in the morning reduces your stress and anxiety as you begin the day. It offers you uninterrupted time for daily self-care…stretching, exercise, prayer, getting dressed on purpose and eating a healthy breakfast. These things are usually compromised when you don’t have enough time in the morning. Even if you are not one to rise while it is still dark, I encourage you to rise at least 1 hour earlier than your family.

Maybe you’re a night owl and you just don’t think you can do it. Well, that’s exactly where you will begin, at night. Remember the saying, “early to bed, early to rise”!

☀️Start with going to bed at least 15 minutes early each night until you get to 1 hour earlier that usual. This will help to balance your sleep schedule.

☀️If possible, wake up to natural sunlight in your room or even the sounds of early morning…the song of a sweet bird chirping as your alarm.

☀️Soon, twenty to thirty minutes after getting up, move your body. Stretching and exercising in the morning gives you energy and boosts your mood.

☀️Eat a healthy breakfast to fuel your body and give your brain power to make you more alert and attentive.

Rising early promotes a healthy lifestyle and improves your productivity and performance throughout the day. Trust me, the benefits are certainly worth the sacrifice.
