Sometimes, I Just Can’t

Homeschooling is a regular part of our daily lifestyle, but there are days when it is just plain hard to get in the groove to teach or assist our children with their school work. It is on these days that it seems like the boys are more chatty, asking questions that require me to respond, engage and respond again and…I just can’t.

Sometimes my soul needs rest, a few minutes, an hour or even afternoon alone with God. I have learned to listen to my heart, to be responsive to my emotions. When I become overwhelmed, I pause and pray. His comfort and his strength empower me to press on.

When these feelings are not incidental, but linger beyond a moment or a day, I return to Lord with my weary soul. I talk, I listen and I journal. I seek Him for direction, guidance to help me get through the valley.

There are times when I am led to adjust my daily tasks or agenda to lighten my load and give me a bit more time in my daily schedule. Other times, this just wasn’t enough and it is necessary for me to retreat, to take a break, a day or two away unto a quiet place alone with God. In His presence there is peace, grace and love to refresh and renew my heart and mind.

When I can’t, God can. He is my strength and my redeemer. Seeking and following Him draws me out of darkness and gives me hope to walk through the season with courage and confidence.

Tell me, what do you do when you just can’t seem to make it through your homeschool day?
