I am naturally an organized person, so I take time to make sure our routines are well planned, regular and predictable. Our family routine includes everyone. It is important for each person to have a role, therefore we are all cooperating together. This has encouraged a sense of belonging as well as unity in our family. When there is an update or adjustment I gather everyone and share to insure that each person will know who should do what, when, in what order and how often.

Our routines have been especially beneficial for our children. They have helped organize their thoughts and actions. Because our family life is predicable, our children feel confident and safe. Chores are a part of our daily family routine. They help our children develop life skills, time management and independence as well as reduce confusion and conflict regarding household responsibilities. Routines have also helped to build healthy habits like good hygiene, a regular sleep routine and even eating nutritious meals and snacks.

Having a routine gives structure and order to everyone in our home because there is little effort or conscious thought for our daily activities. Routines are truly essential to me as a parent. They help me feel organized. When I follow our routine I am more available mentally, emotionally and physically to care well for others individually. It reduces stress and anxiety and avails me to address even the unexpected with grace and peace.
If your thinking about a new family routine or perhaps reconsidering the one you have currently, here are a few things I would suggest:
•When considering a family routine, create a Family Daily Schedule.
•Remember, routines need to meet the everyday needs and goals of the whole family….include things like meals together, study time, chores etc.
•Successful routines include all family members in the responsibilities. If you can take the toy out of the toy box, you can put it back. 😊
•It helps to have routines you can adapt as things change…sports, work, church activities, maybe the time or day for a task can be adjusted.
Do you currently have a daily routine for yourself or your family?
