Volunteering has always been something our children do in the Summer. They have helped at our local library, assisted with sports camps and even cleaned our neighborhood. This year our sons participated in a very special camp, SOAL (Serving One Another in Love).

SOAL is a camp that the student minister at our church started last year. It was such a great experience for the students to be enlightened and serve others in the community that this year is was extended to a 5-day camp. I appreciate so much that our children are exposed to the needs that exist right where they live, within a few miles of their own homes.

This Summer at camp our sons had the opportunity to embrace a few more important ministries that meet the needs of people…men, women and children. They cleaned and organized, packed meals and washed cars. Each day a biblical message was shared and they were given time to play games and have fellowship as well.

Our youngest son is entering sixth grade in the Fall, so he was able to participate this year as well and I joined him as a volunteer. We made great memories as we made encouragement cards, pet toys and treats, packed meals and cleaned a local park.

The week ended with a fun time for all the students, volunteers and staff enjoying lunch and bowling together. I was a great way to fellowship and have fun. Do your children volunteer during the Summer months?
