Learning and Growing Together!

Homeschooling is a part of our lifestyle. We learn and grow together daily even in the Summer. Though our daily schedule is much different than it is during the school year, we continue reading, writing and arithmetic a few times each week. We also delve into our history and science completing a chapter of our text for the upcoming school year. This allows us to incorporate our subjects into our Summer visits to the library, museums and parks. Since we have more time in our days, we engage in hands on activities and choose experiences that relate to our the era of history and area science we are studying.

Ezekiel leading our daily devotions.

Having daily devotions is how we learn and grow together spiritually. It includes Bible reading, a book or topic we are studying and prayer. We are currently using the book “Created to Need A Helpmeet” by Michael Pearl. We started this book in the latter half of the school year. It has sparked some great conversations with our sons who are middle school and high school age.

I enjoy this time of year with our children so much! Some of our learning in this season takes place outside in our backyard. We have a few places for us to gather together to learn as well as places they can go off and read and write alone.

Our deck has plenty of seating options.

The boys will also volunteer, attend a couple of camps they are interested in and work. How do you and your children spend your Summer?

The boys and I volunteered to pull weeds for a friend who just completed chemo and is unable to do so.

  1. I’ve always enjoyed reading your posts. I think you are a wonderful mother, an inspiration even to those who don’t share your beliefs. However, I’m disappointed to learn that you are studying the works of Michael Pearl, and I’m hoping that it’s because you are unaware of his philosophies on child rearing. I hope you do some digging before you associate your wonderful reputation with his.
