It’s My Pleasure!

Every Sunday is “family dinner” at the Bowie home. To make it possible, we avoid commitments that would take us away from home on Sunday evening. This is a tradition that I was fond of as a child and I greatly desired to have it be a part our family legacy. Though we would go out for lunch, cooking family dinner on Sundays was something I started when our children were young. It is a desire of our heart for our children to be close and having a planned meal together once a week just offers a place for good conversation and laughter.

Lots of good food and good times had at this table.

As our children got older and prepared to leave home, I reiterate the commitment I made to prepare a meal for everyone on Sundays. I extend the invitation to our young adults and their families to return to our home each week for Sunday dinner and to visit us and the children that still live at home. We are so grateful they oblige us! This has been such a blessing to the younger generations because they continued to have a regular relationship with all of their siblings.

So glad this is one of our family traditions!

As our family has grown, my husband suggested I have the ladies bring something or assist me in the kitchen. Absolutely not, I will cook this meal each week for as long as I am able. It is my pleasure! I look forward to Sunday, a day of worship and fellowship! I enjoy preparing our home and my heart to receive them each week. There is no expectation or formality just an open invitation to join us.

Seeing our granddaughters playing together just melts my heart.

They usually begin to arrive around 4:00. Our home is filled with the sweet sound of conversations, mostly about sports, grandchildren cooing and crying, pets pitter patter around and the young women catching up on the week’s events. We have an open floor plan which allows me to listen and observe them as they engage one another while I cook. There is no greater joy for me than to see them all grown up choosing to be with one another regularly in our home.
