I Was Living Distracted

I spent this summer growing and learning about ME. I committed myself to living self aware, that is to be more conscious of my actions and reactions to my life situations and circumstances and even my daily routines. One of the things that was revealed to me is that I was living a distracted life.

It’s true, we live in a fast pace world and distractions are a natural part of life. As I became more aware of my daily habits, I also became more aware of my personal distractions, the things that draw my attention away from my to do list, my priorities and my goals.

At first, I was frustrated with myself because they were things that seemed so trivial. They weren’t bad things. It was people and things that were of interest or that were entertaining or amusing. What I realized was they were also things that I did not have to exert much thought or responsibility towards. Trivial as they may be, they were taking up my time and they actually drained me of my zeal and creativity. I found myself not heading back to complete the things that were on my original agenda.

This became disheartening. I needed to make some changes. I decided to revisit my goals, my dreams, my desires and write out a schedule for my day. When writing my schedule I considered those distracting things and asked myself, why. Why did I allow those things to have my attention? Are they of interest…should they be a part of my day? I wanted my schedule to reflect my heart in this season. When it was all said and done, my new schedule which includes my husband, our children and my business, also allowed me more time outside (which I love), time to sit and ponder my thoughts, time write and time to walk. These are things that inspire me, keep me grounded and offer me peace. It even allowed for time in the evening to veg out on a tv show or videos on YouTube.

As I end this season I am so proud of myself and the balance I have achieved. I am much more disciplined and responsible with my time and how I spend it. I feel less frustrated, more focused and ready for the breath of fresh air Fall is sure to bring.
